Amon Namara has been dubbed South Africa’s Tinder Swindler. The 39-year old Ugandan gentleman has reportedly swindled wealthy women out of money, jewellery, clothes and other pricy items.
Nicknamed “The Sandton Swindler”, the suave gent has also lured women on the dating app Tinder. Much like the Israeli conman Simon Leviev, who’s swindling habits were brought to light in a documentary.
According to a report in the City Press, Amon “Amoleno” Namara posed as a successful millionaire with multinational businesses on Tinder.
His online dating profile included details about his two Mercedes Benz vehicles as well as his Bentley. Namara also described himself as a travel addict who has several properties in Jozi.
One of the woman he swindled told the publication that Namara asked her for R15 000 because he was having some financial trouble. He promised to pay her back by the weekend.
In total, she had sent him almost R52 000 and he had taken stock worth R60K from her business. One of the items he’d taken was a R10K Rolex watch.
Another woman came forward to talk about how Namara had promised her a trip to Knysna but needed some help paying for the trip.
She sent him R16 000 to pay for the booking and was left stranded at the airport.
Amon Namara has since been arrested and was remanded in custody with his bail application postponed to Friday, 4 March.
