All members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) will boycott the State of the Nation Address (SONA) 2024 over the party’s senior leadership’s suspension.
This after the Western Cape High Court dismissed the application of EFF leader, Julius Malema and 5 senior members to have their suspension overturned.
The suspension comes following the EFF members disruptive interruption at the 2023 SONA. Malema and his MPS were found guilty of contempt of Parliament for storming onto the stage last year, while President Ramaphosa was speaking.
Malema, Shivambu as well as senior EFF members, Vuyani Pambo, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, secretary-general Marshall Dlamini and party spokesperson Sinawo Tambo will not be allowed inside the National Assembly on Thursday during the President’s address.
In response to the High Court’s ruling, the EFF have in a statement affirmed that all members of the party will boycott the SONA 2024, saying the President’s address is nothing more than “an extended caucus of the ANC.”
All EFF Members of Parliament will not participate in the 2024 SONA activities and programme, as these are undemocratic and unconstitutional. “It is evident, and certainly beyond reasonable doubt, that the courts continue to be part of the Ramaphosa defence mob, whose primary and sole aim is to protect the racist white capitalist establishment.
The judiciary of South Africa is beyond any doubt captured and now part of the mob that will collapse democratic accountability.
Consequently, all EFF Members of Parliament will not participate in the 2024 SONA activities and programme, as these are undemocratic and unconstitutional, and the so-called State of the Nation Address is an extended caucus of the ANC.”
The EFF says partial participation in the 2024 SONA activities and programme would imply that some of our Members agree with the unlawful, undemocratic, and unconstitutional decisions of Parliament to forbid and banish elected MPS.
All EFF members are instead dedicating their time and attention to the launch of the party’s Manifesto which is taking place at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 10 February.
