Afriforum expressed its frustration with South Africa’s ten-year struggle with load shedding, which they say has seriously disrupted daily life and economic activity.
CEO of Afriforum Kallie Kriel spoke to Newzroom Afrika and outline the plans the civil rights organization has put in place.
Kriel said negotiations for a private electricity company with investors inside and outside of SA have advanced.
“We need to accept that Eskom will probably never be able to meet all the electricity needs in this country.
They will still play a role but the big question is how you garner extra-energy capacity and what is possible.
“We are handling the fact that we need to start with the short-term solutions, while we work on a long-term solution. We have divided it into three phases.” said Kriel.
Kriel also stressed that Afriforum will have to continue to put pressure on the government to open the electric grid through the courts.
