Nine people were killed in a bus disaster on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast on Sunday, and an investigation is expected to start on Monday.
According to reports, the bus transporting members of the Twelve Apostles Church in Trinity, KwaDukuza Local Municipality, collapsed on the N2 between Mandeni and Stanger on Sunday.
The 82-seater plunged off a precipitous embankment on the N2 between Stanger and Mandeni.
According to a statement from KZN Transport MEC Siboniso Duma, the bus would be taken from the location and delivered to the Gingindlovu offices of the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI).
IPSS spokesperson Samantha Meyrick says a three-year-old toddler was one of the people who lost their lives. At least 80 passengers were transported to different medical facilities with 12 people in a critical condition.
“Teams worked for hours to stabilise patients and move them to awaiting ambulances. All patients were transported to various hospitals and clinics in the north coast of KZN.”
