Three child online sexual predators have been arrested in Gauteng by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Serial and Electronic Crime Investigations (SECI) and the USA Department of Homeland Security.
The trio were arrested in a simultaneous takedown operation involving South African users who were involved in the possession, distribution, manufacturing, accessing and downloading of child pornography.
Investigations which lasted several months led to the arrests of three men across different parts of Gauteng.
In Springs, a 63-year-old male British citizen who was found to be in the country illegally was arrested for a number of violations which include:
• Possession
• distribution,
• accessing,
• downloading,
• viewing
• facilitating the distribution and making available child pornography
• exposure of a child to adult and child pornography
• Grooming of a child
The suspect faces offences related to bestiality where police seized material of him allegedly having sexual intercourse with a dog.
A 43-year-old man was arrested in Benoni for the following offences:
• Possession
• distribution,
• accessing,
• downloading,
• viewing
• facilitating the distribution of child pornography available
A third man, also 43 was arrested in Krugersdorp, and he too faces charges relating to child pornography which include:
• Possession
• accessing,
• downloading,
• viewing
Police confirmed that 3 South African children who were used during the commission of the above offences were identified, and a dog was rescued.
The three child online sexual predators appeared at various courts, including Springs, Benoni and Krugersdorp Magistrates Court on Monday, 13 November.
Their cases were postponed for further investigation and bail applications.
Police say these takedown operations will continue throughout the country to unravel a network of child sexual predators.
