A deadly crash involving a tour bus and a cash-in-transit van in Limpopo has claimed the lives of 20 people, leaving 68 injured.
The accident on the N1 in Makhado occurred on Monday evening, 13 February.
According to ER24 personnel, the bus landed in a river after crashing into the barrier on the freeway and rolling down an embankment.
“ER24 paramedics were on scene at 20h05, along with the fire department, provincial EMS and rescue and several other private EMS services.
Three people were found deceased on the roadside, 16 others were found in the river. All casualties were declared dead on arrival.
One person died in hospital. Several others are unaccounted for.”
ER24 confirmed that 68 people have been injured.
While teams are still searching for passengers, the N1 highway has since been re-opened to traffic.
Exact details surrounding the deadly crash are unknown at this time, but SAPS has opened an investigation.
The heavy rains may have contributed to the collision.
