When the iconic South African house music duo Black Motion announced their split two years ago, the news elicited mixed emotions and a lot of skepticism.
Some people on social media speculated whether Murdah’s relationship with his wife had anything to do with it.
However, during a recent episode of Podcast And Chill with MacG, Thabo Smol, one-half of Black Motion, clarified that Ma Zet (DJ Zinhle) had no involvement in their split. In fact, according to Smol, DJ Zinhle has always supported Black Motion.
He believes that the pursuit of personal growth ultimately led to their separation.
“I think it’s growth and a person wanting to explore what they think they want to work on. I was told that I needed two years before we went back to Black Motion, but I needed to eat.
“There was a party in the middle, but it was not Ma Zet (DJ Zinhle). A lot of people were blaming her. She had nothing to do with it. It was weird seeing her get a lot of hate on social media. She loved and embraced the brand.”
Thabo Smol believes that his former Black Motion partner “lacked freedom of expression in terms of DJing.” He explained, “We never had any clashes; we always had a strong working relationship.”
Speaking to 959 Breakfast in 2022, Thabo Smol revealed that he went solo because he wanted to “try out other opportunities”, However, his heart is still with Black Motion.
“My heart is still Black Motion. I love Black Motion and I’m a member. I wanted to try something because I felt like we had reached the ceiling. It started to feel like we were sounding the same. I wanted to try out other opportunities.”
