Tebogo “ProVerb” Thekisho is celebrating 20 years of his iconic album The Book of Proverb.
The Book of Proverb album, released in 2005, marked a significant milestone in South African hip-hop, solidifying ProVerb’s position as a respected lyricist and storyteller.
The album’s title, drawing a direct parallel to the biblical book, highlighted his intention to deliver wisdom and insight through his music. ProVerb’s lyrical prowess and conscious content resonated with many listeners, contributing to the album’s success.
ProVerb’s journey with The Book of Proverb was intertwined with his broader career, which included his involvement in radio and television.
To commemorate the milestone, ProVerb wrote a lovely ode and revealed that he had no idea how the album would affect his career when he released it.
“I am eternally grateful to every listener, every supporter, and every mentor who believed in my craft. To the day-one supporters who recited my bars, to those who tuned in as my career evolved, and to everyone who has walked this journey with me, thank you. Two decades later, I stand here still writing, still speaking, still creating.
“Forever grateful for the mic, the music, and the movement that made me who I am today. Here’s to 20 years, and to the many more stories still to be told,” Proverb wrote.
