The Forbes family celebrated AKA’s four Metro FM Music Awards (MMA) at his grave on Sunday, 07 May, in what can only be described as an emotional moment.
Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes was honoured post-humously at the awards, where he was nominated in 6 categories, scooping 4 awards.
The slain rapper’s parents, Lynn and Tony Forbes, accompanied their late son’s daughter, Kairo Forbes on stage to accept the awards on his behalf.
Taking to Instagram, Lynn shared how proud her son had made her from his first solo album, Altar Ego in 2011 to date.
The proud mom said her son’s talent was unquestionable, and admired his consistency for the past two decades.
“Kiernan (AKA) your talent is unquestionable. You have been consistent for almost 2 decades and you deserve each of these awards.
You are a legend and you have left us with a lasting legacy for the generations to come. We are so proud of you and we want to acknowledge the people, who you chose, to be there with you till the end and bring Mass Country to life.”
AKA received awards for:
- Artist of the Year
- Best Male Artist
- Best Hip Hop Artist
- Best Collaboration Song for his collaboration with Nasty C on Lemons (Lemonade)
The award-winning rapper who was gunned down outside a restaurant on Florida Road, Durban in February, was celebrated at his grave.
Lynn and Tony Forbes, Kairo and AKA’s girlfriend, Nadia Nakai, all paid hommage to the Mass Country album creator, with each of them holding an award that the rapper scooped up.
The family also thanked the “Megacy”, AKA’s legion of fans for their support and unwavering love.
“Thank you to family, friends and the Megacy for your unwavering love and support.
We appreciate you and we know that without your loyalty and support winning these awards, would not have been possible, thank you.”
