Mamelodi SAPS has instituted action against one of their own after a detective allegedly refused to help a woman who was assaulted by her husband.
The visibly injured woman went to the Mamelodi police to report the assault but the station was closed.
She then had to travel to the Silverton Police Station. The woman says a female police officer at the station insisted on speaking to her husband before opening a case.
The victim has since released a video about her ordeal. In the video, she says she did not feel protected by the police.

Suspect arrested
SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Brenda Muridili says Silverton police arrested the suspect in the early hours of Sunday morning.
She says Silverton police officers transferred the case docket to SAPS Mamelodi for further investigation.
Police also transferred the arrested suspect to the station as the incident occurred in Mamelodi.
“The detective in Mamelodi who was allocated the case then charged the 46-year-old suspect with assault and then released him on a warning to appear in court on 30 December.
“[The] Station Commander has also instituted an internal disciplinary investigation into the detective member that released the suspect on a warning and failed to liaise with the complainant,” Muridili says.
According to police, officials closed the Mamelodi Police Station for decontamination following a case of COVID-19.
Muridili says the Community Service Centre was operating from the back entrance of the station.
Mamelodi SAPS Station Commander Brigadier Matji, has apologised for any inconvenience caused with regards to the closing of the police station.
He has committed to ensuring that the next time the station has to be decontaminated, there will be clear and visible signage to direct clients to the place where the Community Service Centre will be operating.
