Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema has questioned why the South African government has not allowed the use of the Sputnik and China’s Sinovac vaccines.
Malema was giving his Freedom Day address at the Saulsville Arena in Atteridgeville, Tshwane.
The Economic Freedom Fighter leader questioned why government is offering South Africans only a few options when it comes to vaccines.
“There is a vaccine from Russia called Sputnik . Sputnik is 99% safe,” said Malema.

He added that Sputnik is prepared to give South Africa eight-million vaccine doses. However, Malema said the government does not want the vaccine.
“These people are not interested in saving lives. They are interested in money,” said the EFF leader.
“We want the Russian vaccine Sputnik. Whether the vaccine comes from Russia or America, that should not be an issue, the issue should be, is this vaccine going to work and if the answer is yes, let it come.”
The leader said in China, where the virus started, they don’t wear masks anymore, because they all received the vaccine.
“Why don’t we take the vaccine from China and come and give it to our people here?” he asked.
“We want to warn Cyril Ramaphosa, we are going to take a very radical action if vaccine from China and Russia are not allowed here. They must be allowed the same they allow every vaccine from India, from America, from Europe, let people have a choice,” Malema added.
