Lloyd Cele is hoping his latest single, ‘No Filter’, will help tackle the negative side of social media.
The former “Idols SA’ contestant says he has been working on the “special song” for more than a year. He said he wanted to create a song that was sincere and true.
“Social media has had major positive and negative influence over many lives. There is one particular aspect that I have noticed, that I felt highly saddened about and needed to address through music,” he says.
Lloyd says using filters to change one’s appearance has become the norm. But he says people shouldn’t need them to feel beautiful.
“What they have done is hide our scars, our blemishes, our true self, our true identity, the real you… There is nothing wrong with accepting the way that God has made you, you are truly beautiful the way you are. We don’t need to portray [ourselves differently] from who we truly are for the sake of getting more “likes” or more followers or friends.”
The ‘Hero’ singer adds that he hopes his song will give people more confidence to be themselves.
“I know this may not be something everyone agrees on but that’s ok. I hope there would be some girl or women or men who would listen to this song and feel a sense of#hope and love for who they are. Perhaps gain the confidence to be proud of themselves despite their failures blemishes/pimples/ vitiligo etc.”
