Lloyd Cele is sharing his personal experience with crime in South Africa.
The singer took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a video of a crime in progress. The footage shows a man snatching another man’s phone before jumping into a getaway vehicle.
Lloyd urged his followers to be careful out there.
“MY FRIENDS PLEASE BE CAREFUL Be aware of your surroundings. I love my country but I hate this!!! I hate crime!!!” he wrote.
The former ‘Idols SA‘ contestant says he posted the video hoping it would help someone else. He revealed that he experienced something similar with his wife, Janice Cele, except it wasn’t a phone but his car.
“… I will never forget the pain and the trauma we went through. The shock, the fear and the depression that comes with it… It’s been years and we still feel it sometimes, and so we [are] always on the look out, for anything or anyone suspicious or any abnormalities in our surroundings. Lock the car, turn around, double-check, look around, hide keys, close windows,” he wrote.
Lloyd says it’s sad, but this type of thing happens every day.
“We’re not supposed to live in fear and I’m not asking you too, but rather use wisdom and always keep your guard up.”

Amazing Grace
Several days before his post, Lloyd shared a video of himself singing ‘Amazing Grace’.
“I don’t know about you but there are some songs that have words that translate beyond human understanding or intellect. They have the power to change our lives, destiny, circumstances and future…” he wrote.
Lloyd says he hopes the song will inspire people going through a rough patch.
“If you listen with your heart you may hear it my friend and you may find #hope #strength #courage through this pandamic or whatever you may be facing. I pray it does that for you, for your family, your business and our country.”
