As Sizwe Dhlomo officially takes over the Kaya 959 06:00 to 09:00 slot, the usually reserved broadcaster loosens up a bit and shares some interesting tidbits about himself.
Dhlomo steps into this slot after standing in for nearly a year. He is at the helm of his brand-new show Siz the World with support from Sol Phenduka, Mpho Maboi, and Mfundo Mabalane.
What three items can’t you live without?
I need internet connectivity. I spend a lot of time reading online and doing research. Second, I need food to sustain me; and third, a shower.
What was the last book you read that captivated you?
I read books for different reasons. The book that captivated me was Will Smith’s Will. I read textbooks a lot because I like to understand how things work.
What’s the one thing most people would be shocked to know about Siz?
Believe it or not, but I’m soft at heart. Obviously, I portray a hard exterior, but I am actually a softie at heart. If you know me, I am very soft.
I portray a distant demeanour. It is mostly how I am. Also, I don’t like to engage with people unnecessarily because I feel an engagement is an exchange of energy, and I don’t want to deplete that energy willy-nilly.
Why do you think people have this perception of you?
Some of it is also informed by people that interact with me on social media, and unfortunately, with social media, it’s really just words, and they don’t get to see if you are joking or being serious. And I troll a lot. I’ve been trolling people about the J. Cole and Kendrick thing (laughs).
What do you attribute your success to?
I’ve always been very focused, even from a young age. I’d say I’ve been focused since my teens. I’ve never changed; I’ve always been driven. I’ve never had a phase where I was messing around or not doing anything constructive. It has paid off for me. I’m exactly where I envisioned myself to be at this age.
