Phillip Truter, the first man to be convicted for his involvement in the looting of the VBS Bank is out on parole while Tshifhiwa Matodzi, the key figure he implicated as the mastermind behind the looting began his 15-year jail sentence.
Truter was released on Parole earlier this year after serving three years and six months of his seven-year sentence.

VBS Mutual Bank was a South African mutual bank. In 2018, it was declared insolvent and bankrupt and placed under curatorship, with South African citizens and taxpayers defrauded out of roughly 2 billion rands.
