Dorcas “Didi” Lekganyane was reportedly stabbed to death by her parner in a suspected domestic violence incident.
The 32-year old was found with multiple stab wounds at her residence in Bramley, Johannesburg on 11 July.
Her partner, allegedly attempted suicide and was taken to hospital for treatment under police guard.
The man, whose identity cannot be revealed until he has made an appearance in court, will be charged with murder once he is fit.
Dorcas Lekganyane was an academic and an internationally respected scientist.
In June 2024 she made the Mail & Guardian’s list of 200 Young South Africans in the Climate Change & Environment category.
Lekganyane was a trusted voice, specializing in Traditional Medicine Research and was recognised as one of the 50 most inspiring women in South Africa.
Her family who were waiting for call on the fateful Thursday when she was brutally killed, described Lekganyane as a beacon of light.
