Legendary heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson gave an unexpected answer when a 13-year-old TikToker named Jazz asked him about his legacy.
Tyson, who is set to make a comeback in the boxing ring after 20 years in an exhibition match against YouTuber Jake Paul, responded bluntly:
“I don’t believe in the word legacy. I just think it’s another word for ego,” he said. “Legacy doesn’t mean anything. It’s just a word everyone clings to… It means absolutely nothing to me. I’m just passing through. I’m going to die, and it’ll all be over. Who cares about legacy after that?
“Legacy is just ego. It’s wanting people to think, ‘I’m this, I’m great.’ No, I’m nothing. We’re just dead. We’re dust, absolutely nothing. Our legacy is nothing.”
Tyson continued, “Can you imagine someone saying, ‘I want my legacy to be this way when I’m gone’—you’re dead! You think anyone really wants to think about you? Where’s the audacity—to expect people to think about you after you’re gone? Who cares?”
The Siz The World team deliberated on whether Mike Tyson’s response was appropriate, seeing that he was speaking to a 13-year-old.
