Gautrain services between Rosebank Station and Park Station are still suspended after train operations were disrupted due to illegal drilling on Sunday, 16 February.
The disruptions were reportedly caused by illegal drilling on a private property above the Gautrain tunnel.
This caused water and soil to leak into the tunnel impacting the operating ability of the trains.
As a contingency measure, Gautrain has increased its bus services between Rosebank Station and Park Station.
Buses are operating between the two stations every 15 minutes from 5:30 AM to 8:30 PM.
Point of View with Phemelo Motene spoke to Gautrain CEO Tshepo Kgobe about the extent of the damage caused by the drilling, who will be held liable for the damage and the estimated turnaround time for the repairs of the damage.
Kgobe confirmed that the 46-litre hole is 15 cm wide and filling it will take time, as the repairs have to be done in such a way that there aren’t any future problems.
He added that his key focus this week is to try to get the line open by next week Monday.
