Cope terminates Joburg Speaker Colleen Makhubele’s membership.
Speaker of the Johannesburg Council Colleen Makhubele’s membership in COPE has been terminated after she made a claim that the party is a part of the recently established South African Rainbow Alliance (SARA).
COPE declared that two high-profile figures had “terminated their own contracts” by joining the Rainbow Alliance (SARA) in South Africa.
Point of View with Phemelo Motene spoke to Cope National Chairperson, Teboho Loate about the latest developments.
Listen to the full conversation here:
Loate spoke about SARA, which under Makhubele’s leadership, a group of minor parties including the NFP, AARM, ICM, and churches make up the SARA voting bloc.
He mentioned how as a party they were not part of the decision to be part of SARA.
“What we know with the documentation that we have is two things, this was also confirmed by Mr. Moalusi in a meeting of the Gauteng Provincial Committee, that there was this new party whereupon COPE is represented, and I must mention outright that as the Congress of The People, and decision of this nature lies with the national committee, and we have never taken a decision that we would participate in such and become sub-members.”
