The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) confirmed another fire incident at Tembisa Provincial Tertiary Hospital on Wednesday morning.
According to the GDoH, the fresh fire was in the area adjacent to the Accident and Emergency Unit which burned down on Saturday,19 April 2025.
“The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) can confirm that fire fighters from the City of Ekurhuleni’s Fire Department are currently on site attending to what looks like another fire incident at the Tembisa Provincial Tertiary Hospital’s main Out Patient Department (OPD),” the department said.
“This area is adjacent to the Accident and Emergency Unit which burned on Saturday night (19 April 2025). More details will be shared later as the matter is being investigated, the GDoH added.

The Citizen reports that following Saturday’s blaze, 81 patients were removed from the emergency unit, while 26 staff members were accounted for and unharmed.
Gauteng Health MEC, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, conducted a media briefing from the hospital on Sunday and confirmed that investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
“I wish to emphasise that the origin of the fire is still under investigation. We await the official forensic report, and we will continue to keep the public informed of all findings as we are busy now with the investigating teams from various units. Let me take this moment to once again thank the teams on the ground who have worked tirelessly since the fire incident,” she said.
