41 electricity transformers are to be installed over the next three weeks in Kagiso.
On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) began the Transformer Replacement Program implementation in Kagiso, West Rand, in collaboration with Eskom and City Power.
The first deployment in Kagiso, where residents will benefit from the replacement of 41 transformers, will be led by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi.
Gauteng Premier Spokesperson, Sizwe Pamla spoke to Point of View with Phemelo Motene about the province’s transformer replacement programme.
Pamla spoke about how numerous communities in Gauteng have experienced difficulties with energy delivery due to inadequate infrastructure, illicit connections, and non-paying consumers and touched on the efforts that they will be made to ensure that the transformers are safe from vandalism.
“We are installing these transformers in partnership with communities and we make it very clear as the Gauteng Provincial Government that communities have to take responsibility because unfortunately, they are the ones who have to pay the price when this vandalism occurs and also the introduction of town wardens is actually part of the plan.” said Pamla
