H&M South Africa has launch a Suitably Dressed Initiative, to assist job seekers who can’t afford formal clothes for their interviews.
Miles Kubheka, Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator at Clothes to Good, joins Gugulethu Mfuphi on Kaya Biz to share how this community upliftment initiative works.
“My involvement in this campaign started in 2022 when I was listening to the radio, and a guy called in and said he just landed his first job as a lecturer and the kids were laughing at him because he only had one set of clothing.
The listener shared that he felt embarassed and it was affecting his self-esteem, so he asked if people had any clothes that they could spare him.
There’s a lot of people who are going to job interviews or it’s their first job and they don’t have formal clothes, and I thought I could assist in some way.
H&M is inviting South Africans to donate their previously loved clothes which are still in good quality, towards the Suitably Dressed initiative.
In exchange, H&M will receive a 15% off gift voucher from the store to be used towards their next H&M purchase.
The number of vouchers a person receives in return, depends on how many bags of clothing they donate towards the initiative.”

Community upliftment is key to H&M South Africa’s sustainability strategy, and the Suitably Dressed campaign aims to tackle one of the country’s most pressing socio-economic challenges, unemployment.
