African Bank reported a spike in profit with over 500,000 new accounts.
Boosted by a rise of more than 500 000 new clients over that time, African Bank on Tuesday reported a spike in profit for the year ending in September.
Kaya Biz with Gugulethu Mfuphi spoke to Kennedy Bungane – African Bank CEO about the incredible year the bank has had.

African Bank’s retail savings and investment customer deposits increased by 15% to R10.8 billion, while its net profit after tax increased by 38% to R736 million.
The bank also reported a significant increase in retail loan disbursements of 87% to R14 billion.
“Operating costs have been well-contained in the current reporting period, with a 6% increase compared to the prior year, and is mainly attributable to greater operating activity during the current reporting period,” it said.
“Notwithstanding the increased disbursements reported in FY22 [full-year 2022], and the maturing of expensive wholesale debt liabilities, the group’s balance sheet remains liquid with adequate cash resources of R2.8-billion (FY2021: R9-billion].
“Equity capital of R11.9-billion [FY2021: R11.2-billion] continues to grow, representing group total capital levels of 43.4% [FY2021: 43.3%].” said African Bank.
