Langa Mavuso recently joined Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka to start his day on Kaya 959 breakfast, and talks about music, inspiration and his journey.
Mavuso, real name Nkosinathi Nhlakanipho Mavuso, is a singer, songwriter and performer from Johannesburg, South Africa.
Mavuso was born in Diepkloof, got his training at the National School of the Arts, where he studied modern music, the vocalist finished his high school education.

He attended Rhodes University, where he earned a BA in politics and economics. He then went on to the University of Cape Town’s school of music to study jazz performance.

“It is about distraction, I was going through a hard time in my relationship and I found myself distracting myself by going out and trying to find love at the bottom of champagne.”
“But none of that was happening as this was a real-life experience. I was leaving SUMO in a black Jaguar which was a panther. That’s why I called it panther.”
‘Melody is from God and the words are mine’
“I read a lot before I start writing, I find that I kind of broadens my vocabulary, I am very intentional when I write, I want to read and see how other people reflect on life.”
“When I start to write the water is such a powerful place, by the shower and the bath is where it all starts for me. The words come to me, I always say melody is from God and the words are mine.
