As one of the deadly sins, pride sometimes nuanced is an exaggerated appreciation of oneself by devaluing others, certain circumstances or decisions.
Divided into two, Pride is either egocentric or confident.
This closed-off perception and interpretation of life diminishes self-awareness and creates an inflated image of one’s self.
In this case, Feel Good with Andy Maqondwana explores what it means to be prideful and what one’s pride won’t let them do.
In a voice note, one listener explains how her pride won’t allow her to “buy expensive alcohol”.
“Hai my pride just won’t allow me to buy expensive alcohol. I’d rather shop around for the cheapest alcohol, enjoying it in the comfort of my own home”, she shares.
Another listener shares how she refuses to admit when she’s wrong, specifically with her siblings.
“Mina, my pride won’t let me admit when I’m wrong, where my siblings are involved”.
While being prideful is considered to be somewhat ignorant, it’s really not that deep (for lack of a better word).
It is essentially an emotion that we adapt from time to time.
I mean come on now, I bet there’s not one person in the world, who’s never influenced by pride itself! It’s completely normal!
