When thinking about your job and working environment, how does it make you feel? Do you feel anxious or stressed? Do you wake up feeling unmotivated? Do you struggle to sleep at night?
If this sounds close to home, then you might be going through a burnout, specifically workplace burnout.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), burnout is a syndrome that results from workplace stress that is not successfully managed.
Burnout is characterised by three dimensions: energy depletion or exhaustion increased mental distance from one’s job or feelings of negativism related to one’s job and reduced professional efficacy.
Stresses are often excessive prolonged emotional, physical, or mental stress.
On Feel Good with Andy Maqondwana, Andy asks listeners how they deal with workplace burnout.
Below are common tips on how to deal with burnout:
- Seek support: Find professional help or talk to people that you trust.
- Set boundaries: Setting limits makes it easier to manage people’s access to you as well as managing your stress.
- Put yourself first: Take some time off for yourself and relax!
- Get some exercise: This is a great way to release any burnout tension and stress.
- Get enough sleep: Sleep is important! Sleep is vital for good physical and mental health.
