There are certain things women just get without anyone ever having to explain them. Some things simply don’t need interpretation or context, as they say in isiXhosa, asitolikwa (meaning it does not need to be explained).
Whether it’s an unspoken rule between friends, a telling glance from across a room, or a text message that requires no questions, women often share an indescribable understanding.
That is one of the many reasons female friendships can be so special, because there’s comfort in being understood without having to explain yourself.
On Feel Good, Andy Maqondwana asked: “What is something that women just understand without it ever needing to be explained?”
Callers unpacked the codes, experiences, and everyday moments that women automatically understand. From covering for your best friend to knowing exactly when she needs help, the conversation highlighted the bonds that exist between women.
The question is, does the unspoken loyalty always apply? And is there ever a time when the “girl code” should be broken?
