A listener recently shared that his wife is considering quitting her job because she feels exhausted. He wants to support her decision, but he’s worried that his income might not be enough to support her and their kids. He reached out to fellow Best T in the City with Tbose listeners, asking if there could be any blind spots he might be missing in this situation.
“Uncle T, after 7 years of a two-income household, my wife has decided she is ready to resign. She hasn’t been happy at her job for years and she says she is just tired. She told me that she is resigning and doesn’t think she will be employable. She is in her mid-40s.
“I want to support her, but our kids are still young, and we are only 2 years into our bond. I am afraid that I will not be able to cope financially, but I also don’t think it’s fair to force my wife to continue working if she is unhappy.
“I’m at such crossroads because as the man I need to provide but we are living in times where two incomes are the only way to survive. I have been encouraging my wife to not resign until she finds another job, but she is beginning to hate me for it. I just don’t want us to struggle.
“How do I make her stay the cause? Do I make it about the house? Do I make it about the kids? Or do I suggest we downgrade back to a townhouse to maintain our lifestyle?”
