One of our listeners recently shared that his ex-girlfriend came over to help with funeral preparations after his mother passed away. She even attended the funeral the next day.
Now, his wife is upset about the ex’s involvement, feeling it was unnecessary since they are now married. In turn, this has caused a major fight between them. The listener, on the other hand, doesn’t see anything wrong with his ex’s actions since she had a relationship with his mother.
Reaching out to fellow Best T in the City listeners, he wants to know if there are any blind spots he might be missing in this situation.
“Uncle T, my mother, passed away a few weeks ago, and my ex-girlfriend, who knew my mother and my family well, came to support our family. She came a day after finding out and proceeded to come on Friday to help, and then came on Saturday for the funeral.
“My wife was not happy; she feels my ex could’ve just come on Saturday for the funeral. While I understand her discomfort, not once did my family change their tune when they saw my ex. If anything, my ex wasn’t even coming in bad faith; she really kept her distance, and we didn’t speak much.
“My family was happy to see her and appreciated the support, but they know who my wife is. They made sure not to make her feel uncomfortable. My wife, however, is still very mad at me and says I allowed my ex to disrespect her authority and even said I should’ve told my ex not to come, but in such a situation, how does one regulate who comes and who doesn’t? Is there something different I could’ve done, or is my wife just being unnecessarily insecure? I mean, she has the ring and the kids, so why the big fuss? I honestly don’t get why she is mad at me.”
