Anonymous finds herself torn between proceeding with her wedding without her estranged parents or postponing the event until they can mend their broken relationship. The turmoil unfolds as her mother uncovers a painful truth: her father fathered three children outside of their marriage, leading to their divorce.
Pleading for help on The Best T in the City Anonymous candidly shares, “I am getting married in October, however, my parents are making it extremely difficult, so much so that I am no longer looking forward to the day. My parents divorced three years ago after my mom found out that my dad had three kids outside of their marriage. Although I and my siblings were hurt, we decided not to get involved and carried on speaking to our dad.
“I was expecting my dad to walk me down the aisle, but my mom said that if this is the case, then she is not coming. After I spoke to my father, he said, for peace’s sake, he would not be attending. Honestly, I want both my parents there. My dad said he’d ask one of my brothers to walk me down the aisle. I am so disappointed, and I have been trying to speak to my mom, but she is not barging. It breaks my heart that both my parents won’t be at my wedding. I am considering postponing my wedding and sitting them down until we find a solution. Am I asking too much of my parents?”
Reflecting on a similar scenario, traffic reporter Juliet Joseph shares the story of her friend’s inventive solution. “My friend faced a similar dilemma and chose not to attend her own wedding as a form of protest. Surprisingly, this unconventional move sent a message. Eventually, both parents walked her halfway, symbolizing their separate roles in her life.”
