Back In 2018 former Yizo Yizo star Meshack Mavuso went broke and almost lost his house.
Speaking to 959 Breakfast with Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka this week, Meshack said it was a tough time and they tried all they could to get help. “I was working together with my wife,” he adds.
The thespian and his wife managed to get all the money needed to save their house on the day of the auction.
He says from that challenging experience he learned valuable lessons about money.
Those are mistakes you learn from when you are growing. Learned to invest money in things like the bond than unnecessary stuff. You must also think about the kids and their future.
Responding to Sol’s question about how he’s stayed relevant for this long, Meshack explains that it’s all about respecting your craft.
I won’t say I’m perfect but I respect my craft. I’ll never go to work drunk or high. It’s really simple if you take care of your job. it’ll take care of you.
The thespian says the industry has changed a lot compared to when he started out.
Now they don’t put a lot of focus on the craft. They just ask you how many fans you have on social media before they hire you.
Meshack believes theatre is the best place to start because the real talent lies there.
I think producers want quick viewership. And it doesn’t really. bring the viewership because sometimes you’ll be cast with someone who has over 2 million followers but we only get 500k viewers and you thinking where are those 2 million followers?
