Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal has expressed interest in signing Kylian Mbappe, 24, from PSG for a reported R5.5 billion fee. According to Sky Sports, Al Hilal has submitted a bid to sign the player, who has a year remaining on his current contract.
Should Mbappe sign for Ah Hilal, he would earn around R13.5 billion just to play in the Saudi Pro League for a year. This looks like the best possible offer for PSG, who have communicated their intention to sell Mbappe after he refused to extend his current deal with them.
The potential transfer of Kylian Mbappe has been a hot topic in the football world. While the allure of financial gain may seem enticing, the decision is not as straightforward as many believe.
Currently earning R20 million per week at PSG, Mbappe expressed his desire to leave the French club to fulfill his lifelong dream of joining Real Madrid. The Spanish giants hold a special place in his heart, and etching his name in their folklore is a goal he has pursued since the beginning of his career.
While it may be financially rewarding to take the offer, moving to a lesser-known football destination might not be the best decision for Mbappe’s career and legacy. Established players like Ronaldo, Benzema, and Kante, who currently play in Saudi Arabia, already solidified their legacies in Europe before making the move.
Mbappe’s abilities have never been in question, but the lack of experience in competitive leagues raises concerns about his true potential. Playing in leagues like the Premier League or La Liga offers a different level of competition and scrutiny, which could further cement his legacy as one of football’s greats.
As a professional athlete, time is of the essence, and physical prowess is a crucial asset. The older a player gets, the less valuable they may be seen as, making the decision even more critical. It’s now or never for Mbappe to make a choice that will define his footballing career.
Sizwe Dhlomo and the team touched on the economics of the deal. Listeners called in to share whether they would take the deal or not.
