“No one can liquidate ANC!” Those were the adamant words of ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula who maintains that Ezulweni Investments is not owed a cent.
This despite the Gauteng High Court ordering the ANC to pay the company R102 million for election posters that were ordered, put up and removed in 2019.
While the ANC vehemently denies that a contract was in place with Ezulweni, The Gauteng High Court found that there was a binding verbal contract in place.
Speaking at a media briefing in Luthuli House on Wednesday, 06 December, Mbalula said the ANC cannot be liquidated, and the party is seeking a Constitutional Court ruling on the matter.
“We fear f*kol. I can put my head on the block, no one will liquidate the ANC. As the ANC, we are not going to an AI-generated Ezulweni.”
On Monday, 04 December the Sheriff of the Court descended on Luthuli House, after the Gauteng High Court issued a writ of execution in May, allowing the Sheriff to attach movable assets from Luthuli House, which would be sold to recover the debt owed to Ezulweni Investments.
Mbalula claims that Ezulweni paid bribes to junior staff members at the ANC in order to secure the deal for the election posters.
“There was never a procurement with Ezulweni. This is a fraudulent matter
This is the first time that we are facing a fraudulent matter and people are determined to extort millions of rand from the ANC. And in certain quarters, they call themselves ANC members.
We would not go to court if we owed people because going to court is a costly exercise. We would simply settle and pay them in instalments. The fact of the matter is that we never procured the election banners.”
The Secretary-General also rubbished reports that the ANC was financially unstable, saying the party has money for all activities.
