On Monday, 16 August, Lil Wayne acknowledged his mental health struggles on ‘Uncomfortable Conversations with Emmanual Acho.”
The 5-time Grammy Awards winning artist says he believes that his struggles with mental health started when he was just 10 years old.
It happened in response to being told that he couldn’t follow his dream of being a rap artist.
This led to thoughts of suicide and at the age of 12 his thoughts were actioned.
In his confession to Emmanual Acho, Lil Wayne says his attempted was prompted by the fear of his mother’s reaction towards him skipping school to focus on rap.

He shares how he called the police, found the gun that his mother kept in her bedroom and without any anger or need for encouragement, he pulled the trigger.
That’s when he knew that he that he needed help.
He decided to share his story because he wants everyone to know that mental health struggles are real.
Thanks to the attentive nature of a police officer named only as ‘Uncle Bob’, Lil Wayne was rushed to an emergency room, and he survived.
Following his suicide attempt, his mother, Jucida Carter supported her his dream of becoming a rap artist.
At the age of 38, Lil Wayne’s says that he is happy and he maintains his happiness through prayer.
