South African comedienne and social media personality The Funny Chef (real name Lebogang Tlokana) has opened up about embracing her authentic self.
In a raw and refreshingly honest post shared with her followers, The Funny Chef opened up about rejecting societal norms, and loving herself loudly.
“I’ve never been a girly girl. Never been a little Mrs Damsel in Distress nor a girl that asks for help when I can get sht done for myself.”
Known for her animated personality and unapologetic humour, she shared her experience on growing up as the “bigger one” among friends and family and how some people’s discomfort with her body revealed subtle fatphobia, even from those who claimed to love her.
“People can like/love you… and still be fatphobic,” she wrote.
But the post was not just about size or stereotypes. It was a celebration of her boldness.
“My slang is taken from different areas in Pretoria — Sosha, Pheli, Mams, etc. So when I speak, it sounds like I’m about to rob you (pretty cool if you ask me).”
She also spoke of adapting to others’ energies, of being misunderstood, of thriving in chaos, and still holding space for softness and empathy.
“Though I seem rough and tough… that doesn’t make me less of a human. I feel just like you. I love just like you. And I hurt just like you.”
She ended her post with a strong reminder:
“So be kind. Even when people aren’t watching. Be kind, even to those who are deemed the black sheep. They have feelings too.”
In 2022, The Funny Chef and Lamiez joined My Top 10 at 10 with Tbose to dish on their friendship.
