The news of Lebogang Tlokwana, popularly known as The Funny Chef, joining season 12 of Our Perfect Wedding in February 2022 was seen as a major breakthrough for her career after years of hard work.
However, what was expected to be a big step in her career didn’t work out as anticipated, as some viewers expressed dissatisfaction with her as the show’s host, and as a result, she was let go by the channel. Opening up about the experience for the first time on Mpho Popps and Robot Boii’s podcast, Lebogang revealed she was ‘broken and depressed’ for four months.
Lebogang shared that she didn’t want to leave her house or talk to anyone for months.
“My mom was worried that I was going to end my life. It was that deep. The people who were close to me loved me enough to tell me that this is what’s happening: viewers are not happy, and if they are not happy, the channel is not going to be happy.”
Admittedly, she said that the channel was fair; however, she didn’t expect to be let go so soon in her tenure.
“I was trying. I never checked the comments on Twitter until I saw an article on Facebook. Then I was informed that they were going to let me go. Whether you are strong or not, you will feel it. I became very sad, and when one thing goes wrong, everything starts going wrong. Campaigns started pulling out,” she said.
