Racially insensitive?
In 2020, Multichoice’s digital streaming platform Showmax removed nine Leon Schuster films from their service after deeming them to be racially insensitive.
Growing calls by many South Africans on social media led to streaming services, broadcasters and other producers responding to the Black Lives Matter movement by reviewing the content they allowed on their platforms in the wake of the death of George Floyd.
This led to the removal of Leon Schuster films which include You Must Be Joking, You Must Be Joking Too, Oh Schucks… It’s Schuster, Sweet ‘n Short, Schucks! Pay Back the Money, Mr Bones, Mr Bones 2, Mama Jack and Frank and Fearless.
The jury is still out if his latest offering will have similar racial undertones.
