Authorities are searching for the Range Rover driver who plunged his vehicle into the water in Richards Bay.
The eccentric driver dangerously drove his car across the shoreline on Pelican Island, Richards Bay while several swimmers were wading through the water.
At first onlookers cheered the driver on, with two occupants of the vehicle waving out of the sunroof.
What started as a thrill ride, ended in disaster after the driver plunged the vehicle into the water.
Footage of the Rover stuck in the water went viral over the weekend.
The occupants of the vehicle grimly made their way out of the water as the driver stands next to his submerged ride.
The vehicle was later towed on Saturday and police are searching for the driver.
uMhlathuze traffic department said the man endangered the lives of the public and the occupants of his vehicle.
