British actor Idris Elba is in South Africa to shoot survival thriller, ‘Beast’.
According to Northern Cape Film Week’s Twitter page, the film shoot will last 10 weeks.
“Universal Pictures has began a 10-week film shoot in the rural parts of Northern Cape and in the city of Cape Town for the pulse-pounding new thriller, Beast, starring Idris Elba and produced by Will Packer .”

Idris plays Dr Nate Samuels in the movie. According to Deadline, Dr Samuels is “a widowed husband who returns to South Africa with his teenage daughters where he first met his wife”.
The trip doesn’t go as planned and the family ends up being stalked by a lion during their trip.
The lion is “a survivor of blood-thirsty poachers who now sees all humans as the enemy, begins stalking them”.
‘Beast’, which is directed by Baltasar Kormákur, is due for release in August 2022.

Idris Elba’s history with South Africa
Idris has been to South Africa on several occasions in the past. He shot ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’ in Cape Town. Terry Pheto played Mandela’s first wife, Evelyn Mase, in the movie.
Idris also filmed Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower’ in SA.
The actor has several movies lined up over the next year. Fans will get to see him next in ‘The Suicide Squad’, which drops later this month.
‘The Harder They Fall’ is due for release on Netflix later this year.
