In honor of SpongeBob SquarePants’ 36th birthday this month, Nickelodeon Africa aired the first-ever SpongeBob SquarePants episode in isiZulu on July 14.
The episode, according to Nickelodeon, is devoted to not only honouring SpongeBob’s birthday but also to promoting and educating isiZulu as one of South Africa’s official languages.
Kids from all across the world have enjoyed watching the well-known cartoon.
He is known for living under the sea in a pineapple and is an overly exuberant and upbeat character.
He enjoys being a cook at Krusty Krab, and lives in the Pacific Ocean. He embarks on various adventures with his friends at Bikini Bottom.

Dillon Khan, Senior Vice-President Nickelodeon Africa said this is a major milestone in Africa.
“We are thrilled to present the premiere of the first-ever SpongeBob SquarePants episode in isiZulu.”
“This is a milestone first in Africa. This provides audiences with the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the iconic world of Bikini Bottom like never before.”
“This is one of the many steps we are taking in our commitment to being more inclusive and more localised while celebrating Africa’s rich and colourful heritage and local languages,” said Khan.
