Wednesday, October 5, marked the heavenly birthday of the late Malaika singer Jabulani Ndaba.
In honour of the bittersweet day, former Malaika singer Tshedi took to social media to wish Jabu a happy heavenly birthday.
“Rest in peace. Jabulani ‘Sjava’ Ndaba. As time passes, we can only hang on to memories, your laughter, jokes, and dancing patterns. Happy Heavenly Birthday, Ninja. O kare o ka tsoga wa shebella digraap, digagabi, dinonnori le dintanyana tsa lefatshe. O bone bo meno masweu nje.. re tshega net, but otherwise, o lepara la game skeem.”
Jabu Ndaba passed away in 2008 following a long illness.
Tshedi leaves Malaika
In 2021, Tshedi Mholo bid farewell to Malaika after being part of the group since 2003. Mholo took to social media to announce her departure.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce my departure from the band,” she wrote in a statement.
“Effective immediately, I would like to inform you that I will not be doing any public performance or whatsoever under the banner of Malaika,” she added.
The singer revealed that after almost twenty years with the band, she realised how it had taken a toll on her.
“Being in the band took a toll on me on so many levels, and I have reached a stage where I cannot carry the burden any further,” she wrote.
Tshedi added that being the only female vocalist came with pressure, especially working in a patriarchal society.
“In an already patriarchal society and, by extension, the entertainment industry, for a long time, I have constantly found myself under the pressure of being the only girl in the band and having to live up to certain expectations.”
