Rachel Kolisi is calling on South Africans to come together to give her sister-in-law and Olympic gold medalist, Tatjana Smith a hero’s welcome.
This after the 27-year old breast stroke champion announced her retirement after winning her 4th Olympic medal last week, this time a silver.
Tatjana won her third Olympic medal, on Monday night, 29 July coming from behind to win gold, overtaking China’s Quinting Tang who was in the lead in a spectacular finish.
South Africa’s swimming champion announced her retirement following her fourth medal win, confirming this is her final appearance at the Olympics.
With four Olympic medals behind her – two gold and two silver – Tatjana who is still in Paris with her parents and husband Joel, has expressed that she can now focus on her family.
Rachel Kolisi believes her sister-in-law deserves a hero’s welcome and over the weekend, she called on South Africans to make sure that when Tatjana comes back to South Africa, they give her a hero’s welcome.
Taking to her Instagram story, Rachel said, “Deserving of a hero’s welcome for sure. We do it for the boys. Let’s make sure we do it for the girls, too.”
Tatjana hasn’t shared when she plans on returning to South Africa, and is enjoying some time off shopping and site-seeing in Paris.
