It has been reported that sneaker brand Khokhova kicks have filed a lawsuit against Makhadzi who is in breach of contract after failing to promote the brand.
Makhadzi had to wear the sneakers during performances and promote the brand on social media.
In a statement released on Wednesday morning, Makhadzi’s record label ‘Open Mic Productions’ put it on record that the complainant failed to keep his end of the bargain and was actually in breach of his contractual obligations from day 1.
They entered into an agreement with the complainant worth R120 million in October 2021.
“The value projection made sense financially and legally.”
According to the singer’s camp, the supplier insisted that they launch the Khokhova kicks despite concerns that they had low stock in hand.
“Several attempts were made by Open Mic Productions to assist the supplier to honour the obligation of delivering the goods.
“In terms of the contract, the complainant was to provide 8000 pairs of shoes on a monthly basis and that has not happened to this date.”
The label notes that they questioned him about his capacity to manage and he insisted that he would manage.
Attempts to find an amicable solution have lapsed.
“Even at this stage we reached out to the complainant and his lawyers to see if we could save the project considering that the agreement was to lapse in a few months, the discussions did not yield any meaningful results.”
Open mic says they are puzzled by this claim of R8 million, considering that Makhadzi has lost earnings due to the fact that she had exclusively tied to the deal and as such missed other opportunities.
“The truth is that his capacity doesn’t exist and his work ethic is questionable.”
