South Africa’s beloved soapie Muvhango is set to introduce viewers to the Rivombo family, a new clan whose story of love and resilience promises to resonate deeply with audiences.
At the heart of the Rivombos is patriarch Mzamani Rivombo, portrayed by seasoned actor Obed Baloyi.
Mzamani, a community pillar as the owner of a local spaza shop, embodies stability and generosity. For Baloyi, the role feels fated.
“What is meant for you will always be yours,” he says, reflecting on his journey. “After several auditions since the show’s inception, joining this historic soapie is a dream realised. I’m grateful to the producers, the channel, and God—and I’m committed to giving my all for the audience.”
Beside him stands Winnie Rivombo, played by Mnasutani Hope Rasekele, a woman whose unwavering faith and compassion make her the family’s moral backbone.
Winnie’s church-rooted values and quiet leadership reflect the strength of real-life matriarchs navigating societal pressures. Rasekele, echoing themes of destiny, shares:
“What is yours will never miss you. Always be present to the process of becoming.”
The couple’s children bring youthful ambition to the fold. Daughter Hulukati ‘Hulu’ Rivombo (Nkateko Mabunda) is a spirited teen chasing influencer fame—a role that marks Mabunda’s first foray into soapies. Meanwhile, son Nkomati (Junior Magagane) channels his hustle into a relentless entrepreneurial drive.
