- The State has alleged that Brown Mogotsi planned to escape from the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court cells by disguising himself in a Correctional Services uniform.
- The claim was made as prosecutors opposed his fourth bail application on Tuesday, 25 August 2026.
- Mogotsi’s latest bail application has been postponed to next Tuesday.
The Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court has heard that alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi attempted to escape from the court cells during his appearance last week.
According to the State, Mogotsi allegedly planned to disguise himself as a Correctional Services officer by putting on a uniform.
An affidavit, reportedly from an investigating officer, was read before the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 25 August, detailing the alleged escape plan.
The officer stated that Mogotsi intended to use a Correctional Services uniform as a disguise and then run for his life.
“I received a phone call from Colonel Massenya from Johannesburg Correctional Services Centre. Colonel Massenya informed me that Mr Brown Mogotsi has planned an escape from court on the 20th of August 2026,” the state lawyer said.
He informed me that the plan is that he would disguise himself in the uniform of correctional officials and would walk out of the court cells”.
The claims were made as the State opposed Mogotsi’s fourth bail application, which is reportedly based on new factual information and two new addresses.
Mogotsi is facing charges of defeating the ends of justice for allegedly faking his attempted assassination last year.
He reportedly shot at his own car in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg, in November 2025, during the early stages of the Madlanga Commission.
He also faces charges relating to the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
His latest bail application has been postponed to next Tuesday.
