Upcoming South African singer Naledi Aphiwe has issued a public apology following an incident at the ‘Mthandeni Summer Experience’ event on 4 January 2025.
The Chris Brown-endorsed rising star was booed and jeered off the stage as the audience expressed their desire to see Khuzani Gatsheni Ndlovu instead.
The situation escalated when attendees threw bottles at Aphiwe during her performance, and a video of the incident quickly circulated on social media.
Aphiwe admitted her actions were thoughtless and expressed sincere regret for how she conducted herself on stage.
“I deeply appreciate the opportunity and the support extended to me,” she stated, acknowledging Gatsheni and his team. “It was never my intention to cause any disruption or disrespect, especially to such a respected and established artist in the Maskandi community.”
The musician added, “I respect the values of this community and will use this time to reflect on my behaviour, ensuring I grow as both an artist and an individual. I’ve learned that success is not only about talent but also about maturity, respect, and collaboration.”
Taking full responsibility for her actions, Aphiwe stated her commitment to personal and professional development.
“This is a time for growth, and I will focus on honing my craft and adopting a more professional approach to my music and career. To my supporters, Kuba Landeli Bami, I ask for your understanding as I continue my journey. I recognise my need for improvement and promise to use this experience as a stepping stone to becoming a better artist and person.”
Aphiwe concluded by extending her deepest apologies to everyone affected by her actions.
