President Cyril Ramaphosa might have been a good sport, attempting to take on the Mnike Dance Challenge, but he failed to impress social media users who found his moves cringeworthy.
Ramaphosa attended the final match of the Netball World Cup 2023, which took place in Cape Town on Sunday, 06 August.
While the President looked to be in good spirits, the current situation in Cape Town, amid the taxi stayaway, remains dire, and Ramaphosa faced scrutiny over more than just his dancing.
The CPT taxi stayaway which started last week due to the City recently impounding thousands of taxis, has already claimed two lives, with 3 others injured.
With taxi’s refusing to operate, 27 schools were closed on Monday, 07 August, after the stayaway incited violence, looting, and the torching of vehicles, and the City depot.
Nonetheless, President Ramphosa said South Africa had a duty to honour as the host nation, as a result the Statesman delivered brief remarks at the Closing Ceremony.
“As the host nation, we have been honoured to welcome players and supporters from all over the globe and we look forward to an exciting final, and the successful conclusion of the tournament.
Of course, we encourage our guests to extend their stay and be inspired in new ways by the many amazing experiences South Africa has to offer.”

Afterwards, the President let loose and tried to take on Tyler ICU’s hit, Mnike but, online users weren’t sure what dance moves Ramaphosa was pulling off.
