President Cyril Ramaphosa has sent his well wishes to Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, who remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after being hospitalised earlier this week.
The Zulu Traditional Prime Minister was discharged from hospital last week after undergoing a procedure for back pain management, but was readmitted on Tuesday, 01 August due to a complication.
Ramaphosa says he was briefed by the Buthelezi family on the Prince’s condition and the President sends his heartfelt prayers of recovery to the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) founder.
According to the Buthelezi family, Prince Buthelezi’s discharge date will depend on his recovery.
The family have thanked the public for messages of well wishes and support, and asked that space and time be given to allow the Prince to rest and recover, ahead of his 95th birthday later this month.
Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi celebrates his birthday on 27 August, and was born into the Zulu Royal Family in 1928.
The struggle icon who began his studies in politics between 1944 and1946, founded the National Liberation Movement of the IFP in 1975.
A lengthy political career earned the Prince recognition for his leadership both at home and abroad, and Prince Buthelezi received the Magna Award for outstanding leadership, in Hong Kong.
His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu also bestowed on Prince Buthelezi the King’s Cross Award.
This is a developing story.
