CANSA and the Reach For A Dream Foundation have paid tribute to Mark Pilgrim who lost his battle to cancer on Sunday, 05 March.
Both organisations remembered the veteran radio personality as a beloved ambassador whose brave fight inspired many.
Pilgrim was fighting Stage 4 lung cancer after being in remission for 33-years. After spending 64-days in hospital, Pilgrim was finally able to go home where he popped the question to his partner Adrienne on New Year’s Eve.
The distinguished radio and TV personality was 53 years old at the time of his passing, and produced and anchored the award-winning Mark Pilgrim Show from Monday to Saturday on HOT 102.7 FM.
CANSA shared that Pilgrim was an avid activist who raised awareness around cancers affecting men, especially testicular cancer.
Pilgrim also promoted men’s health awareness, and assisted the organisation in numerous fundraising initiatives.
“Mark was always an inspiration to cancer warriors, patients and survivors by openly talking about his journey over the years. Even after his second diagnosis, in 2022, Mark continued to share his story and encourage others. His messages of hope and bravery resonated with everyone, not only cancer patients, and taught us all to, don’t stop believing.“

The Reach For A Dream Foundation said Pilgrim’s unwavering commitment to the cause and infectious enthusiasm touched the lives of countless South Africans.
“Mark’s kindness knew no bounds. He always went above and beyond for our children, whether it was through fundraising efforts, donning a pair of slippers on Slipper Day, or simply spending time with them, bringing smiles to their faces.
What we’ll remember most about Mark is his indomitable spirit.”
