Emtee shocked many of his with fans recently when he shared the amount he got from Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO).
After controversially leaving record label Ambitiouz Entertaiment in 2019, award-winning rapper Mthembeni ‘Emtee’ Ndevu decided to released his first album as an independent artist under his own record label, Emtee Records.

In a Tweet where he was responding to Prince Kaybee, who was asking whether or not SAMRO still pays artist while disclosing how he just got a R100 payment from the organization. Emtee laughed and said he recently got his R30 payment saying “😅 just got 3 tigers”

SAMRO has faced criticism by the media and many of its members over the years.
The scandals involving SAMRO are widely known by now. There were the millions owed by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) in royalties and the millions lost in a deal that went sour in Dubai in 2014-15 when SAMRO was headed up Sipho Dlamini.

Though the organization announced in May that it had begun collecting royalties on behalf of its members from TikTok, Facebook and Netflix, this after having concluded licensing agreements with the popular digital platforms, there are still many members who are allegedly unhappy with the current state of affair.
